H.K. Cotton Memorial Lecture Speaker Series -- Ryan J. Boyle '00
Ryan Boyle graduated Gilman
School in 2000 after an illustrious
three-sport career that included
All-American honors in both
football and lacrosse and being
named Baltimore Sun Lacrosse
Player of the Year and Baltimore
Messenger Athlete of the Year.
As a Princeton University
Tiger, Mr. Boyle led the team in scoring for four years,
inished second all time at Princeton in points and assists,
and was only the second player in history to be named
Ivy League Player of the Year twice. Some of his collegiate highlights include assisting the winning goal in
overtime for the 2001 National Championship, being
named All-American four times, setting a Princeton
record for assists in a season and the Ivy League record
for assists in divisional play, winning the Ivy League
Rookie of the Year, and leading Division I in assists for
two seasons.
Mr. Boyle then carried this success to the professional
ranks as he quickly earned MLL Rookie of the Year in
2004 while winning the irst of three MLL Champion-
ships with the Philadelphia Barrage. Since his rookie year,
he has been a perennial All-Star and All-MLL selection.
In the fall of 2004, the San Jose Stealth drafted him to
play for the indoor National Lacrosse League. Although
he had never played indoor lacrosse, Mr. Boyle was
named the 2005 NLL Rookie of the Year, and has since
made several All-Star appearances for the Stealth and his
current team, the New York Titans.
Mr. Boyle has also had the privilege of representing
his country by playing for Team USA in both 2002 and
2006. Considered the highest honor a lacrosse player can
achieve, he won a gold medal in Perth, Australia, in 2002
and a silver medal in London, Ontario, in 2006.
Mr. Boyle decided to make lacrosse his full-time
professional commitment in 2005 when he and Rob
Lindsey, Gilman ’00, Princeton ’04, co-founded Trilogy
Lacrosse—an education company focusing primarily on
summer camps and select teams. Under their leadership,
Trilogy Lacrosse has gone from an unknown upstart in
a crowded marketplace to establishing a reputation as
the leader in lacrosse education. With the help of David
Skeen ’98, they also created the Trilogy Foundation,
a non-proit organization dedicated to helping spread
the game in the inner-city of Baltimore through the
Baltimore Youth Lacrosse League (BYLL). After a very
successful inaugural year in 2007, the Trilogy Foundation
looks to strengthen its inluence through deepened
participant involvement, citywide expansion, and
long-term sponsorship.
